What is a sushi tube? RAKU's push-up roll, explained
A sushi tube is exactly what it sounds like: a fresh sushi roll packed upright in a slim, resealable tube. Instead of a plastic tray, chopsticks and a hunt for somewhere to sit, you eat the roll straight from its container, one push at a time.
At RAKU in Zürich, every roll is made fresh and slides into its own tube. The result fits in one hand, survives a backpack, and turns sushi into genuine street food.
How you eat it
- Open the tube by twisting off the cap.
- Sauce it: pour your chosen sauce right into the tube. Pick Yamakake (spicy), Zukedon (sweet) or classic soy.
- Push the roll up from the bottom and take a bite. Repeat until the tube is empty.
The sauce coats the roll as you push, so every bite is seasoned. Your hands stay clean because you only ever touch the tube.
Why a tube instead of a tray?
- Truly portable: eat while walking, commuting or between meetings. No table needed.
- No cutlery: chopstick skills are optional. The tube does the work.
- Protected and fresh: the roll stays sealed and in shape until you open it.
- One hand free: phone, tram strap or shopping bag, your call.
